4 Rules of Firearm Safety

The firearm is ALWAYS presumed to be loaded.

Never point a firearm at anything you do not want shot/killed.

Know your target and what is in front and behind it.

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.

Personal Requirements

All minors must be directly supervised by parent or legal guardian and adhere to RGC rules at all times.

Organized competitive shooting and scheduled events shall take precedence over all other activities. During such times, the range shall be under management and control of the Event Director. The range will be closed during all scheduled events and setup of the events. Exceptions may be made only with the consent of the Event Director.

Rifle Range

Rifle bullets, pistol bullets, and heavy shotgun loads must strike the berm. Do not shoot into the air. Do not shoot into the water. Targets are not to be placed on the ground this may cause ricochets. Targets are not to be placed on target support posts. Targets are to be placed between posts.

Before 600-yard shooting, put a sign as bottom of the hill to block incoming vehicles and to warn them of the danger.

During a ‘cease fire’ to go down range to check and/or change targets place all weapons on the bench empty with action open or in a holster and do not touch any weapon until the range is declared ‘clear.’

General Rules for Indoor Range:

• Range limited to .22 rifle, .22 pistol, and center fire pistols under 1,000 fps; only lead or polymer

covered bullets, no full metal jacket; firearms that are uncased must be benched with actions open

and muzzles pointed down range.

• Eye and ear protection must be worn.

• Inform a Club Officer of any issues or problems.

• Follow all commands of the Range Safety Officer.

• All targets are to go all the way down to the stop.

• Clean up all empty brass and garbage before leaving. Take your misfires with you.

• Black powder firearms are not allowed on range.

• In case of a shooting accident, call 9-1-1 and STATE THIS IS A TRAINING EXERCISE; perform first

aid to injured; make the range cold; inform the dispatcher the address of whichever range you are on

and follow remaining posted emergency procedures.

• Fully automatic weapons are not allowed on range unless approved by Club Officers.

General Rules for Outdoor Range:

• The outdoor ranges may be used by any current club member, including their spouse and minor

children when accompanied by a parent or guardian; All children are to be accompanied by their parent

or guardian and must be supervised. Have your membership card available. Members may bring

a guest.

• The outdoor ranges are available to current members from 8:00 am until dusk. BMG’s will be allowed on WEEKENDS ONLY! Exceptions will be police and tactical units for training.

• When using the range members shall have their current membership card available, ready to present

to RRPC Officials when asked.

• Do not give the combination to the lock for the gate or your card to someone else. If caught they will

be asked to leave, and you will forfeit your membership.

• Eye and ear protection must be worn by everyone on the range.

• Inform a Club Officer of any issues or problems.

• Bring your own targets, stapler, tape, thrower, etc… Do not use targets that leave a mess or that can

cause ricochets. No glass.

• Pick up and dispose of targets when done shooting. Pick up all empty brass/hulls when done shooting.

• Take your misfires with you; do not throw them in the garbage or in the water.

• At County Road FF Range, when 600-yard shooting, place the sign that is at the bottom of the hill into

the middle of the drive facing uphill to inform incoming patrons not to proceed further down into the

range. Anyone shooting at 300- and 400-yard benches should leave their car parked on the drive to

block members from proceeding.

• Always shoot toward the berms. Do not shoot toward the quarry. All bullets must impact the berm. For the Koro Range, be sure to shoot inside the shortest wall of any bay. Do not

shoot into the side berms on the 200-yard bay on Koro Range and shoot only into berms provided.

• Gun stands, benches, props, walls, trailers, garbage cans, etc. are not targets or target stands.

• Target stands are provided. Do not attach targets to the target stand support posts.

• Do not shoot at steel targets with a center-fire rifle at less than 50 yards or ever with armor penetrating.

• No tracer or incendiary ammunition is allowed.

• If an unsafe behavior is observed, please take note of the names or license plate number etc. and

contact a RRPC Officer.

• members using the range on Koro Rd. close the second gate behind you upon entering and exiting the range.

• No automobiles (other than emergency) beyond the opening at the bathrooms and sponsor board on

the Koro Range. No vehicles past the parking lot on grassy area southeast of pole building on the

County Road FF Range.

• Bridge between the outdoor ranges is restricted to authorized use only

• The outdoor ranges may be closed for set up and/or during any organized event.

• All Club events are governed by and have specific rules above and beyond those stated by the Club,

these event rules will be followed by all event shooters and will be enforced by the match directors.

Such rules are readily available from the National Rifle Association of America, ATA, NSCA, SASS,

IDPSA, etc…

• RRPC range is a cold range, (with exemption to concealed carry) and no firearm shall be in a loaded condition except when on the firing line, and after loading, it shall be pointed toward the backstop at all times until fired or unloaded. Unless holstered for practice.

• In case of a shooting accident, call 9-1-1 and STATE THIS IS A TRAINING EXERCISE; perform first

and follow remaining posted emergency procedures.

Safe Firearm Handling:

• Shooter must maintain control of their firearm at ALL times.

• All firearms will stay cased/holstered unless shooter is on the firing line and is ready to shoot.

• Never turn up range while holding a firearm.

• Never for ANY REASON leave the firing line with an un-cased or un-holstered firearm.

• Always keep firearm pointed in a safe direction i.e., downrange.

• Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

• Always keep the action open and firearm unloaded until you are ready to shoot.

• Always assume all firearms are loaded and treat them as such.

• Never hand a loaded firearm to another person.

• Never point the muzzle of a firearm toward yourself or another person.

• Be sure of your target. Consider the target’s foreground and background.

• Be sure that the firearm is safe to operate and that you know how to operate it safely.

• Use only the correct ammunition for the firearm. If you are not sure ask for assistance.

• No handling of firearms while someone is down range in your bay.

• Firearms uncased/unholstered and not in use must be benched with actions open, pointed down range.

On And Off The Range:

• Stop Command – Upon hearing the command “STOP,” stop shooting and do not move except to take

finger off the trigger and wait for further instructions. This is an emergency safety command that can be

loudly yelled by ANYONE that may see or see something unsafe.

• Cease Fire Command – Upon hearing the command “CEASE FIRE,” stop all shooting immediately,

unload the firearm, open the action, put down the firearm and back away from the firing line. DO NOT

re-approach the firing line or pick up the firearm until the “ALL CLEAR” signal is given.

• The Range Is Hot, You May Commence Shooting Command – Shooters must check with others to

ensure there is no one down range; when the range is declared “HOT” shooters are permitted to

commence firing. Shooters may move safe firearms to and from the firing line only when the range is

“HOT.”

• All loading and unloading of a firearm should only be done on the firing line when the range is “HOT.”

Magazines may be loaded behind the firing line but under no circumstances loaded in a firearm.

• Never Cross The Firing Line For Any Reason – Do not attempt to retrieve anything the falls in

front of the firing line. If you lose a piece of equipment, ask the Range Safety Officer for assistance.

• If you observe any unsafe behavior or condition by anyone, report it to the Range Safety

Officer immediately.

• For any firearm or ammunition problem – Such as a squib or hang fire, keep the gun pointed down

range, DO NOT set the firearm down, remain at your shooting position, Signal the Range Safety Officer for assistance by RAISING YOUR NON-SHOOTING HAND.

• Use only the correct ammunition for the firearm – NO STEEL CORE ammunition to be used on steel

targets. Shooters are liable for any damage to equipment caused by their negligence.

• When requested, display your unloaded and cleared firearm to the Range Safety Officer as well as

the ammunition you intend to use on the range.

• The use of fully automatic fire or simulation of fully automatic fire with accessories such as bump

fire stocks or binary triggers are PROHIBITED on the shooting range.

• All shooters are responsible for their rounds staying within the confines of the range.

All targes must be placed in a manner so that all projectiles must impact the designated impact area (back berm, trap field ect).

• Respect the Range – Please place trash into the trash receptacles and your spent brass into the

recycling receptacles.

Tracer, armer piercing and incendiary ammunition is prohibited.

• Respect Yourself – Shooters and spectators always need to wear eye and ear protection on ranges.

Wearing a brimmed hat is recommended.

• Respect Others – There is a one-hour time limit for use of the range if a shooter is waiting.

• Act Responsibility at all Times – Foul language, horseplay or any other unsafe activity will not be

tolerated. If a RRPC Official observes an unsafe act RRPC will help you understand what was done

and work with you to learn the correct safety procedure. If the act is repeated or another unsafe act is

committed, you may be asked to leave the range with NO REFUND.

• If you appear to be impaired – Such as under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescription

medication), you will be evaluated by the Range Safety Official; you may be asked to leave the range

with NO REFUND.

• SAFETY OF EVERYONE ON THE RANGE IS THE RRPC PRIMARY GOAL.

• RRPC WANTS ITS MEMBERS TO ENJOY THEIR SHOOTING EXPERIENCE AND RRPC WILL

DO EVERYTHING WITHIN ITS POWER TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
